Tackle Your Barbiturate Addiction - Say Goodbye To Substance Abuse

My grandmother developed a lung condition in her 40's that was terminal. She wasn't expected to live more than five years after being diagnosed, but she made it almost another twenty! Throughout the years, she was on different medications to help and try to keep her airways flowing properly and also to reduce the risk of stroke and seizures.

However, after doing some research, it became apparent that she needed an updated prescription because the barbiturates she was taking were not good for her lungs. They were in fact prescribed as part of her regimen for stopping seizures.

When we found this out, we also realized how much of an effect the drugs had on her personality because she was always kind of curt and frank with people at times. This wasn't her fault, and we were then decided upon helping her get off the barbiturates and on a different medication.

She didn't have to check into an inpatient treatment program for this, however, but many people do find it necessary due to being addicted to different types of barbiturate substances. Since there are different types of these medications, each case is unique and must be treated in that fashion.

Drug tolerance becomes a big problem with barbiturates, and people often times don't even recognize the fact that they need help. Others around them generally do, and it can be hard to convince someone to seek out assistance. If you are that person needing help, take time out to realize the significance of your problem and what needs to change.

You will be much happier when you are barbiturate free. You might be worried about the symptoms that had you taking barbiturates to begin with. For instance some people take them for anxiety reasons or sleep disorders. But, the fact of the matter is you don't need to be dependent on barbiturates for any reason, and there are other ways to handle these matters.

Three Signs of Alcoholism

Trying to identify whether you or someone you love has an addiction to alcohol can be challenging. Understanding the most common signs of alcoholism can give you the tools you need to make an informed decision as to whether or not alcohol is a problem. Here are some of the most important signs to look for:

Poor Performance at Work or School as a Result of Drinking

Alcoholics tend to put alcohol before everything else, including work and school. They may frequently call in sick because they had too much to drink. They may also have difficulty holding a job because of poor job performance, frequent absences or, in severe cases, showing up drunk to work.

Blacking Out

Another common sign of alcoholism is not being able to remember what happened after a night of drinking. Alcoholics commonly report large chunks of time that are simply missing from their memory when they are drunk. This is commonly referred to as blacking out.

Constantly Thinking About Drinking

When people are addicted to alcohol, it occupies a large percentage of their thoughts. Commonly, alcoholic worry about whether they will have enough alcohol on hand. They also spend time planning how they are going to get more. They may spend time feeling guilty about drinking, or spend nearly every waking moment thinking about when they get to drink next. They may also develop elaborate ways to hide their drinking from others. A large portion of their time and energy is devoted to drinking, or to thinking about drinking. Recognizing the common signs and symptoms of alcoholism can give you the knowledge you need to determine whether you or a loved one is an alcoholic. By understanding the core concepts of alcohol addiction, you can take steps to seek treatment if necessary.

Your Options For Alcohol Treatment

Alcohol is legal in the United States for people 21 and over to consume at their own will. Just because it is legal, does not necessarily mean that it is a safe chemical to be consuming. In moderation, alcohol does not usually cause any negative effects, and can actually have health benefits -- when consumed in small amounts.

When you have lost control of your ability to drink in moderation, and you realize that the occasional drinks have turned into alcohol abuse or even addiction, you need to know your options for treating that addiction. Alcohol addiction treatment comes in many forms; here we will try and familiarize you with some of the options available

Alcohol Detox

In its most extreme forms, alcoholism and addiction to alcohol can be quite devastating to the body. Alcohol addiction comes with a terrible side effect, dangerous withdrawal symptoms. In some cases, an individual who is severely addicted to alcohol will require a full and medically supervised detox to rid the alcohol from the system slowly. Without a medical alcohol detox, possible withdrawal symptoms can include seizures, strokes, respiratory failure, and even death. A Detox program safely navigates around these dangers and provides a safe way to stop abusing alcohol.

Alcohol Rehab Programs

Alcohol Rehab Programs are another option for serious alcohol addictions. Because alcohol is so readily available all over the United States, it can be difficult for recovering alcoholics to stay away from the drink. Entering into a residential treatment facility for alcohol addiction can get you the help you need, in a safe setting, and provides an extra layer of protection against temptations.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment

This option works very well for those that are abusing alcohol, but are not as dangerously addicted to the chemical as some of the more extreme cases. Outpatient treatment allows you to undergo counseling and treatment for addiction at an outpatient facility, but you are not required to live at the facility during treatment. This allows a better flexibility with work schedules and other prior engagements.

New Beginnings Recovery Center in Florida offers alcohol rehab programs and counseling in several different techniques and Styles.
